Laal Singh Chaddha box office collection Day 21: Aamir Khan’s biggest flop since Mela

Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha has given a disastrous performance at the box office collection. It performed even worse than his 2000 film Mela,

Laal Singh Chaddha released on August 11.

  • Laal Singh Chaddha was released on August 11.
  • The film stars Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
  • It is the official remake of Forrest Gump.

Aamir Khan’s large-scale remake of Forrest Gump has been witnessing a drop in collections ever since it hit the theatres on August 11. The film was supposed to be Aamir’s grand comeback to the big screen after a gap of four years. However, it has been struggling at the box office ever since its release. Compared to its Rs 180 crore budget, Laal Singh Chaddha has hardly earned any money. Reportedly, the film earned even worse that Aamir’s 2000 film Mela.

Laal Singh Chaddha opened with very low numbers. It recorded a 15-20% occupancy on Day 1 which is a worrying figure for an Aamir Khan film. After a break of four years, the Bollywood actor surely would have expected better theatrical prospects. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as the film turned out to be one of the biggest flops of 2022. The film’s box office collection also got badly affected due to the boycott and cancel culture.

For a film that took over three years to shoot — and 14 overall to produce — this is a disastrous result, on par with Aamir’s last film, Thugs of Hindostan. But while that film’s box office performance began with a record-breaking opening, Laal Singh Chaddha was simply rejected by the audience from the get go. Trade analysts are predicting a lifetime haul of Rs 75 crore, and according to a news portal, on a return-on-investment alone, LSC will be Aamir’s worst flop since Mela.

2022 has been a huge disappointment for Bollywood as big-budget films have failed to make a mark at the box office. Shamshera, starring Ranbir Kapoor failed to impress the audience. On the other hand, Ranveer Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj and Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 also bombed at the box office. Other Bollywood films that flopped in 2022 are Attack: Part 1, Jersey, Heropanti 2, Dhaakad, Anek, Rashtra Kavach Om, Raksha Bandhan and Dobaaraa, among others.

Directed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha is the official remake of the Hollywood film, Forrest Gump, which featured Tom Hanks. The Hindi adaptation features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh in crucial roles. Even before its release, Laal Singh Chaddha made headlines due to multiple controversies. Netizens called for a boycott of the film over statements made by Aamir and Kareena in the past. The two stars requested fans not to boycott Laal Singh Chaddha and asked them to watch the film in theatres.
