Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani’s romantic drama Satyaprem Ki Katha is enjoying a good run, even in its second week. The film on Sunday collected Rs 5.25 crore taking the total to Rs 66.06 crore on day 11. Cinegoers are not just liking the chemistry between the lead actors but also the social message in the film.
Satyaprem Ki Katha earned Rs 53.21 crore in its first week. While the Friday numbers were dismal (Rs 2.85 crore), there was saw a spike during the second weekend. On Saturday, the film minted Rs 4.75 crore and there was growth on Sunday as well.
The film had a decent start at the box office, earning Rs 9.5 crore on its opening day. However, compared to Kartik-Kiara’s previous film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Satyaprem Ki Katha took a bit longer to join the Rs 50 crore club. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, released in 2022, was a blockbuster that attracted audiences back to theatres, and it managed to earn Rs 50 crore within its first weekend.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 collected Rs 185 crore at the box office. As per a Bollywood Hungama report, Satyaprem Ki Katha will end its theatrical run with a collection of around Rs 70 crore. Vidya Balan’s Neeyat was released on Friday but did not find many takers, and the next big Bollywood release is Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani on July 28. However, Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 will release on July 12, taking up a bigger share in theatres now.
Helmed by Sameer Vidhwans, the film also stars Supriya Pathak Kapur, Gajraj Rao, Siddharth Randheria, Anooradha Patel, Rajpal Yadav, Nirrmite Saawaant, and Shikha Talsania.
Satyaprem Ki Katha received mixed reviews from audiences and critics. The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta felt the movie has an ‘overcooked plot’. Giving the film two stars, she wrote in her review, “Somewhere under the overwrought and overcooked plot of Kartik Aaryan-Kiara Advani-starrer is a real film about two people dealing with troubled pasts, but it gets buried under everything else that the movie throws at us.”
