HISTORY ASPECTS:
The Bell AH-1W “Whiskey Cobra” is a two-bladed, twin-engine attack helicopter developed from the Vietnam-era AH-1G HueyCobra. It entered service with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in 1986, and served in various conflicts including Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
In 2020, the USMC retired the AH-1W after over three decades of service. The last operational flight of the AH-1W took place on October 14, 2020, by the USMC’s Squadron 267 at Camp Pendleton, California.
The AH-1W was known for its versatility, speed, and agility, and was a vital asset to the USMC in close air support, armed reconnaissance, and anti-armor operations.
