I am currently problematically addicted to Marvel Snap, the new mobile card game free from gacha mechanics with hyper short, fun games and a massive collection of cards to earn, not buy.
If you are one of the many people I have convinced to play the game here, I thought I would give you a few good initial decks to experiment with which will get you busy in pool 1, which lasts for the first 200 collection levels or so.
So, here are three starter decks. Not every single card is mandatory and you can find replacements, but you will get the general idea of the decks from here.
This uses Carnage from the season pass. The idea here is that you have a few cards here that Destroy things, and others that synergize with that. Carnage and Deathlok are the destroyers, and we are using Nova, which gives all other heroes +1 when destroyed, Colossus, who cannot be destroyed making him a good Deathlok pair, and Wolverine, who simply respawns when he dies. Add in some other powerful cards to round out your curves, and there you go.
This deck’s synergy focuses on “on reveal” effects. Cards like Ironheart, Wolfsbane and White Tiger all synergize with Odin, who will reactivate any “on reveal” effects in the final turn. A common play is White Tiger on turn 5 and then Odin last turn for a double tiger spawn. In a pinch, you have at least four or five other cards he can work with. I do have some non-synergy cards like Iron Man in here, who is Ongoing, but I’ve found him too valuable for winning lanes to lose.
Here is your “Zerg rush” deck common in many CCGs, and here we have a lot of one cost cards that synergy with Kazar, who buffs all one energy cards, plus Blue Marvel for later which will buff your entire board. Onslaught, once you unlock him, is essentially Odin but for ongoing effects, so he will make Kazar or Blue Marvel buff all those units a second time.
These should get you started. A few of my general favorite cards you can slot in many decks are:
- Elektra – Auto kill any 1 energy unit, even buffed ones
- Yondu – Nuke a potentially key card in a deck
- Colossus – Immune to debuff lands
- Morph – Can win you the game instantly. Or be useless. But he’s fun.
- Enchantress – Silences any ongoing card, hard counter to Devilsaur
- Devilsaur – Almost always going to produce more power than its cost, outside of discard decks.
- America Chavez – Guaranteed six drop for a big power spike were you need it.
It’s going to take some practice to know what to play when, and it’s a long learning process, which I am still enduring as this is just my first week. But hopefully these decks give you some sense of structure and they are a lot of fun to play. Enjoy!
