‘World won’t end if you love both’: James Gunn responds after DC fans say ‘You are of DC, no Marvel’

It is nothing new that there has been a rivalry between Marvel and DC for time immemorial. The fandoms never seem to lose an opportunity to put the other banner down, in the case of movies as well as comics. Speaking of comics, James Gunn is reputable for helming huge comic book projects, including the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies for Marvel and ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘Peacemaker’ for DC.

The ‘Guardian of the Galaxy‘ director recently shared a behind-the-scenes photo from ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ on Twitter and someone commented, “You are of DC, NO Marvel!!!” To which, Gunn replied, “As was made clear in all press until May I am both DC & Marvel. I’ve dedicated the majority of the past 10 years of my life to the Guardians trilogy, & I’m not abandoning them or the thousands of people who worked on them at the 11th hour. The world won’t end if you love both.” Going by his response, it is clear that Gunn loves both franchises and believes in a new world where both can co-exist and fans can grow to love both banners without any hindrances. However, it is unclear if fans are willing to accept it.

The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ is hitting Disney+ next week while ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.’ is hitting theatres next year. These are likely to be Gunn’s final Marvel projects given that he’s got a bigger role over at DC. It was announced that Gunn and Peter Safran have been tapped as the co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios. However, Gunn’s new role has left a few of the DC fans unhappy as he got a bigger part to play in the DC universe.

It is intended to be the second Marvel Studios Special Presentation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films and television series of the franchise. The special is produced by Marvel Studios, and follows the Guardians of the Galaxy as they celebrate Christmas and search for a present for their leader Peter Quill. However, ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ is scheduled to be released on Disney+ on November 25, 2022, as the conclusion of Phase Four of the MCU.
