HISTORY ASPECTS:
The Leopard 2A6NL is a variant of the Leopard 2A6 Main Battle Tank that was developed for use by the Dutch Armed Forces. It was based on the German Leopard 2A6 tank, but with a number of modifications to suit the specific needs of the Dutch military. The Leopard 2A6NL was produced by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and was first delivered to the Dutch Army in 2000.
The Leopard 2A6NL was used by the Dutch Armed Forces in several international peacekeeping missions, including in Afghanistan (ISAF) and Kosovo (KFOR). The tanks were also used in training exercises both in the Netherlands and abroad.
In 2013, the Dutch government decided to phase out the Leopard 2A6NL and return the tanks to Germany. The tanks were returned to KMW where they were upgraded to the 2A7+ standard before being sold to other countries.
