Season 2 of Marshals picks up immediately after the violent, chaotic cliffhanger that closed Season 1, and it doesn’t waste a single episode getting to the point. Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) is now operating at the intersection of two identities that most people couldn’t hold together simultaneously: an elite Navy SEAL whose training prepared him for exactly this kind of high-stakes extraction scenario, and a Montana rancher who knows the land, the people, and the moral codes of the frontier better than any federal agency ever could. His son Tate (Brecken Merrill) has been taken, and Kayce is going to use all of it to bring him home. The season runs 20 episodes and expands the Marshals unit’s reach across contemporary Montana while forcing every member of the team to confront the psychological cost of what frontier justice actually looks like up close. Taylor Sheridan’s fingerprints are all over the expanded scope, and for viewers who followed the Yellowstone franchise through its finale, the world-building here feels like a genuine continuation rather than a spinoff trying to establish its own identity from scratch.
